Smart AdServer selects SecureUDID as an alternative to the UDID

April, 6, 2012 – Smart AdServer, a key international player in digital marketing, launched a new UDID-free version of its iOS SDK, compliant with Apple’s policy.

A couple of days ago, Apple has started rejecting from the AppStore some applications making use of the device UDID, which raised concerns amongst developers, publishers and advertisers.
Until now, UDID has been used in Smart AdServer and most advertising systems for user identification purposes, analytics and in-app tracking. Therefore, this is a “hot” topic.

Our R&D team has started working on other alternative identification systems a few months ago with the clear objective to be immediately ready with a world class alternative solution in case the UDID was reconsidered.

Smart AdServer has selected “SecureUDID” which appears to be the most secure, reliable and privacy-compliant identification system available today. It gives an effective solution to our business requirements. It enables cross-app identification, devices distinction, end-user opt-out. SecureUDID fulfills all Apple requirements.

We are pleased to announce the new iOS SDK version, 3.1.2, including “SecureUDID” is available.

NOTE: Live applications do not have to be submitted again. Though, we strongly encourage our customers to use the new SDK version for future application submissions.
